The RIX DBH D12 thermal riflescope combines a 1280×1024 thermal sensor, 75 mm F1.0 objective and 2560×2560 OLED display with a practical 3× base magnification. For hunters who put image quality first, it brings a high-resolution view together with the rangefinding, recording and controls expected from a premium thermal optic.

For his original D12 review, Todd spent five days on a ranch comparing it with the thermal optics he had available. The DBH D6 had been his favorite scope. The D12 won him over through the combination of image quality and a substantially wider view at the same stated base magnification.
The image impressed him in favorable conditions, but its performance as humidity increased was especially memorable. In Todd’s field experience, the D12 has delivered the best image he has personally seen from a commercial thermal optic, including particularly impressive high-humidity performance.
His recommendation is about versatility as much as resolution: an optic he wants to use across different hunting environments rather than a scope chosen for one headline specification.

The D12’s published angular field of view is 11.7° × 9.3°, compared with 7.3° × 5.8° for the DBH D6. Both scopes have a stated 3× base magnification.
Those figures give the D12 approximately 60% greater horizontal and vertical angular coverage. You see more of the surrounding landscape without dropping to a lower stated base magnification. For Todd, that broader view is one of the D12’s most useful advantages.
A 1280×1024 detector has four times the total pixels of a 640×512 detector. That is additional image information available before digital enlargement—not a claim of four times the visible detail in every situation.
In a simplified 2× digital crop, increasing the D12 from 3× to 6× leaves approximately 640×512 source pixels. Its fine-step digital magnification also lets you increase image size gradually instead of immediately doubling it. The built-in laser rangefinder has a manufacturer-listed maximum range of 1,312 yards. Onboard ballistic calculation, five ballistic profiles and RIX+ app connectivity bring additional functions into the same device. A separate visible green laser pointer can indicate a location to companions.
The D12 also includes video and audio recording, recoil-activated recording, picture-in-picture and Wi-Fi streaming. Dual-side focusing controls accommodate left- and right-handed users. Its aluminum housing carries an IP67 protection rating.
Keep the two range figures separate: RIX lists a 4,260-yard detection range and a 1,312-yard maximum laser-ranging distance. Detection is not positive identification, and neither number is a recommended shooting distance.
The D12 is our recommendation to consider when exceptional image quality, a useful view at 3× and room for digital enlargement matter more than building the lightest possible setup. Frequent thermal users, serious hog and predator hunters, and buyers who want Todd’s personal top pick should give it a close look.
It is a substantial premium optic, not an ultralight choice. A lower-cost or lighter thermal may be the better purchase when that fits your needs. Our goal is to help you choose the right optic, not simply the most expensive one.

RIX’s manual does not specify whether its listed weight includes the batteries and mount. Specifications above are manufacturer-listed figures.
RIX lists the D12 scope, Picatinny mount, four batteries, battery charger, USB Type-C cable, carrying bag, eyepiece hood, lens cloth, hex key, six screws and ten thermal targets.
Does the DBH D12 have optical zoom?
Its base magnification is 3×. Enlargement above that uses digital zoom, with a total listed magnification range up to 20×. It is not a continuous optical-zoom system.
Can it run from an external USB-C battery pack?
RIX states that the D12 does not support external USB-C power. It uses two removable 18650 batteries, so a charged spare pair is the way to extend operation beyond one set.
What warranty does it have?
The D12 has a five-year RIX manufacturer’s warranty, subject to RIX’s coverage terms and exclusions.
